Social media: This can be said to be: “websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.”.

Examples include: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, 2go, Whatsapp, Twitter etc.

Securing social media platform is very important so as to prevent hacking, stealing of personal information or data, unauthorized deleting or changing of personal data or information etc.

Below are methods steps or ways considered in other to have social media account secured.

Use secured passwords:

Do not use pet names, friend’s name, your name, your phone number, a slang you use regularly, a previously leaked password etc.
If you have to use a password mix letters, numbers and characters (@#$%%^*…). Avoid using regular key generators they may leak it later on or their data may be breached.

Change passwords as often as you can and also do not use recycled passwords or passwords used on non trusted websites.

Login from only your secured devices:

Do not share login details or login from a public device or network such as (Cyber cafes, other people’s devices); They may be good friends or people but the bad guys could hack them as well to get information due to carelessness or mistake.

Avoid improper App usage and giving improper App permission:

Do not install apps from unauthorized vendors such as hacks and mode games they could be pathways or links to stealing your data. Avoid using unsecured browsers as well.

Avoid clicking shared links:

If you find suspicious link do not open them as they could be gateways to accessing your data or information. Instead you can copy URL and put in a Tor browser if the link is of importance to load and verify or a browser you not logged in from.

Install Antivirus, Anti-malware and Fire wall & Network protection:

Ensure your Antivirus, Anti-malware, Firewall & Network protection are all installed, active and up to date. As security upgrades the bad guys upgrade to breach, so updating it closes the door for new breach methods.

Do not add or accept suspicious account:

It is advised you only add up those you know if you must accept a strangers friendship request thread with serious caution knowing strangers could be fake schemers or scammers.

Enable two-factor authentication:

This is one of the best methods for protecting your accounts from unauthorized access, do well to activate it if available.

Turn on notifications:

Turn on notifications for login alerts for both email and phone, so you get notified if there is a login and act fast if it is unauthorized

Edit who can view what and what audience can see what:

Set what people can view and hide all sensitive data or information such as date of birth, current location etc from public to just friends or only you.
